The Mount Vernon R-V Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Thursday, July 18. The meeting was very short and included the following items of interest:
The next regular School Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 22.
- The Board voted to hold our Annual Levy Hearing at 7:00, just prior to our Regular Meeting.
The Board approved the District's continued membership in the Monett Regional Behavior Support Center.
- Mount Vernon has maintained membership in this consortium with seven other area districts since its inception in December 2018.
- The purpose of this consortium is to provide direct special education services that would be too difficult and costly for single-member districts.
The Board approved $0.10 increases in meal prices for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
- The National School Lunch Program: School Food Service Account Revenue Amendments Related to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 forbids Districts from supplementing food service programs
with money from the federal free and reduced program. - In order to comply with this mandate, the District is required to raise lunch prices to achieve a “Weighted-Average Price Requirement”.
- The requirement calculates the price increase based on the number of paid lunches; paid lunch prices; and monthly revenue.
- A 2% rate increase is required with the Consumer Price Index added.
- Considering these factors, the price increase in FY 25 should be $0.34 per meal.
- However, Districts have the opportunity to cap to the increase at 10 cents per meal and the Board took advantage of this provision.

The Board approved the following as the cost for admission and season tickets for sports events for the FY 2024-2025. These prices have been the same for the past 13 years.
- Varsity Football, Volleyball, and Basketball: $4
- Middle School Football, Volleyball, and Basketball: $3
In Closed Executive Session:
The Board approved the following personnel recommendations:
Susanna Burgess for the vacant Third Grade Teaching Position at MVIS.
- Mrs. Burgess brings eleven years of teaching experience most recently in Springfield Public Schools.
- This is to replace Sarah Reynolds whose resignation was approved in June.
KayLynn Pennel for the vacant High School English/Language Arts Position at MVHS.
- Mrs. Pennell will serve as a “critical shortage” teacher in this position.
- KayLynn taught ELA at MVMS from 2019-2022 and spent several years teaching ELA in Aurora as well.
- This is to replace Hannah Tiffin whose resignation was approved in June.
The next scheduled meeting of the Mount Vernon R-V Board of Education will be Thursday, August 22 at 7 PM in the District Office Board Room.
