Description
Mount Vernon Elementary School is seeking applicants for a Recovery Room Teacher in the 2025-2026 academic year.
The Recovery Room Teacher will create a supportive and structured environment where K-2 students can calm their minds, reset their emotions, and regain focus. The teacher will foster positive relationships and provide guidance to help students reconnect with others and enter back into the classroom in a successful way. By implementing restorative practices, social-emotional learning strategies, and behavior support techniques, this role ensures students return to the classroom ready to thrive.
Student Support & Relationship Building
• Establish a welcoming, safe, and nurturing space for students to de-escalate and regulate their emotions.
• Build trusting relationships with students to support their emotional and behavioral growth.
• Use proactive strategies to help students develop self-awareness, self-regulation, and coping skills.
• Guide students through the CALM (Calm their minds), RESET (Reset their emotions), and FOCUS (Regain focus) process.
Intervention & Behavioral Support
• Implement de-escalation techniques and self-regulation strategies.
• Utilize restorative conversations and social-emotional learning (SEL) techniques to help students reconnect with themselves and their peers.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop individualized plans for students who frequently need the Recovery Room.
• Document student progress, behavior patterns, and interventions to support data-driven decision-making.
Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure a smooth transition back to the learning environment.
• Communicate with families as needed to provide updates on student progress and strategies for support.
• Participate in professional development related to trauma-informed practices, SEL, and behavioral interventions.
Qualifications:
• Valid MO Teaching Certification in Elementary or Special Education (Preferred K-2 experience).
• Experience working with young students in social-emotional learning or behavior intervention.
• Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practices, and positive behavior supports.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible.
